Urban development project Bendplatz

As part of the integrated project, our task was to develop concepts and strategies for the Bendplatz area in Aachen. We were challenged to create an urban structure with distinctive open spaces. The project was set against the backdrop of RWTH Aachen’s ongoing campus expansion, which is reshaping the areas dynamics.

For the area between the railroad tracks and Roermonder Straße, we analyzed spatial and functional relationships and developed an urban development framework. Building on this framework, we created an urban design for the area. Our team focused particularly on fostering interaction among residents. The design connects to the campus through a promenade, incorporating existing streets and buildings. The residential development is designed to shield itself from the campus, gradually opening up towards the community center.
